Amanda Yang, BASc, MHSc, RD

When you are ready to change your eating habits but unsure where to begin, Amanda Yang helps you find a practical starting point.

You may have been told to change your eating habits for your weight, blood sugar, or cholesterol, yet still feel unsure what that should look like at your next meal. You need guidance that makes room for your questions and the way you actually live. Amanda Yang, BASc, MHSc, RD, combines clinical nutrition training with a master’s degree in Nutrition Communication to help you move from understanding advice to using it.

As a registered dietitian in Waterloo, Amanda provides comprehensive nutrition care, with particular interests in weight loss, diabetes, and cholesterol management. Her approach begins with your health, eating patterns, preferences, and goals—not an expectation that you arrive ready to follow a perfect diet.

You can bring questions about everyday eating as well as concerns about a medical diagnosis. Together, you work toward practical changes you understand, can build into your routine, and can revisit as your needs change.

Amanda Yang, BASc, MHSc, RD, combines broad nutrition care with a commitment to making advice useful.

Amanda Yang, BASc, MHSc, RD, brings experience from primary care, diabetes education, long-term care, and nutrition research. This combination gives her a broad foundation for understanding your nutritional needs while explaining recommendations in language you can use outside the appointment.

Her fluency in English and Mandarin helps make conversations about food and health more accessible. She also recognizes that familiar foods carry meaning: they can be part of your culture, family life, and daily comfort, not simply ingredients on a meal plan.

Rather than asking you to leave those foods behind, Amanda explores how your eating patterns can support your individual goals. Her weight loss, diabetes, and cholesterol interests sit within this broader approach to nutrition counselling, so your care is not limited to a single concern.

Your nutrition plan begins with your real life and stays connected to the rest of your care.

Amanda starts by learning about your health, daily meals, lifestyle, and priorities. Your schedule, cooking skills, food preferences, family routines, and access to food help shape the conversation. These details are part of the assessment, not obstacles you are expected to solve before receiving help.

Through CARESPACE’s nutrition care, you and Amanda turn that information into an individualized plan. She explains the reasoning behind recommendations, helps you choose achievable goals, and uses follow-up conversations to review what is working and what needs adjusting. The aim is to build your ability to make informed decisions, rather than leave you dependent on a set of instructions.

At CARESPACE Waterloo GoodLife, her approach also fits within coordinated, multidisciplinary care. Her family medicine placement included working with pharmacy and mental health teams. When appropriate, she collaborates with other healthcare professionals so your nutrition recommendations complement your broader care plan and keep your own priorities at the centre.

Her training in nutrition science, research, and communication helps you understand the reasoning behind your recommendations.

Amanda completed her Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Human Nutrition, with a dietetics focus, at the University of Guelph. She graduated with distinction and earned Dean’s Honour List recognition from 2021 to 2024. Her Master of Health Science in Nutrition Communication at Toronto Metropolitan University adds focused training in making nutrition information understandable and relevant to everyday decisions. She is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.

Her clinical placements included the Centre for Family Medicine, Diabetes Care Community, Forest Height Long Term Care, and Dr. Amy Kirkham’s laboratory at the University of Toronto. Across these settings, she gained experience in counselling, education, care planning, reviewing dietary records, and follow-up support.

Research work at the Guelph Family Health Study and Toronto Metropolitan University involved reviewing published evidence, analysing data, and preparing manuscripts. That combination of research and communication helps Amanda look critically at nutrition information and explain why a recommendation may be relevant to you.

Your weight loss, diabetes, and cholesterol goals deserve attention without becoming the whole story of your health.

In addition to general nutrition care, Amanda brings focused experience and interests to weight loss and cardiometabolic health. Your goals guide the work, while your food preferences and everyday circumstances help determine how to approach them.

Weight loss should come with support you can use, not another demand for perfection. Amanda has experience supporting nutrition care for obesity through evidence-based nutrition interventions and lifestyle counselling. She works with you to understand your current eating habits, identify barriers, and set achievable goals. A recommendation that does not fit your schedule, cooking confidence, or access to food needs adapting—not simply repeating. Follow-up creates space to discuss what feels manageable, what has been difficult, and how your approach can change without abandoning the health goals that brought you in.

Diabetes guidance needs to be understandable enough to use between appointments. Amanda’s background includes support for diabetes and prediabetes, an educational presentation on prediabetes, and work developing practical materials through Diabetes Care Community. These experiences inform her emphasis on helping you understand nutrition recommendations rather than just remember them. Your counselling can focus on making healthy eating and self-management advice more workable, asking questions about the guidance you have received, and identifying next steps that fit your wider care plan.

Cholesterol support should connect with the rest of your nutrition needs. Drawing on her experience in cardiometabolic health, Amanda helps you work toward practical eating and lifestyle changes. When cholesterol, weight, and blood sugar concerns overlap, she considers those priorities together rather than treating each as a separate set of rules. The aim is an individualized approach that supports your broader health goals while remaining realistic at home.

Her community experience brings the practical realities of food into the conversation. Amanda’s volunteer experience includes planning and preparing school snacks, comparing grocery prices, and helping organize university community events. Those roles bring the practical side of food and communication into view: choosing ingredients, preparing meals, and making information accessible all matter.

In your appointments, that practical perspective sits alongside respect for the foods and routines that are meaningful to you. Working on your health does not have to mean leaving familiar parts of your life out of the conversation.

You do not have to resolve every nutrition question before taking your first step.

Book your nutrition appointment with Amanda Yang today and take the next step toward a practical plan for your weight, blood sugar, cholesterol, or everyday nutrition needs.
