Foods to Avoid with a Shoulder Labral Tear

A shoulder labral tear can be quite painful and it can significantly impact your daily life. Your shoulder labrum is responsible for stabilizing your upper arm bone within the shoulder socket. If this part of your body is damaged you will experience an inability to move your shoulder freely. The pain can be sharp and constant making daily tasks difficult. Nutrition plays a significant role in healing from a shoulder labral tear. Certain foods can help speed up the healing process while others can prolong the healing. In this blog post, we discuss some foods you should avoid while healing from a shoulder labral tear.

Alcohol:

Alcohol is harmful to your body for many reasons, and one of them is that it can significantly impede the healing process. It has been found that prolonged and excessive alcohol intake can prevent bones from healing correctly. Due to this, it’s important to stay away from alcohol while healing from a shoulder labral tear.

Processed Foods:

Processed food is generally unhealthy and is likely to have negative effects on your body. These foods are high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats, which can cause inflammation and slow down the healing process. Processed foods can also make you gain weight, which is not ideal while healing from an injury.

Sugary Drinks:

Sodas, fruit juices, and other sugary drinks should be avoided when recovering from a shoulder labral tear. These drinks contain high amounts of sugar and can cause inflammation, making the pain even worse. Drink plenty of water or natural fruit juices like pineapple juice, which contains enzymes that help reduce inflammation.

Fried Foods:

Fried foods, such as french fries, fried chicken, and fried fish, are loaded with unhealthy fats that can cause inflammation in your body. Inflammation can slow down healing and cause additional pain during the healing process. Instead, opt for baked, grilled, or roasted foods.

When recovering from a shoulder labral tear, it’s essential to be conscious of the foods you’re eating. Avoiding foods that can cause inflammation, such as dairy products, alcohol, processed foods, sugary drinks, and fried foods, is crucial during the healing process. It’s always a good idea to consult your doctor, nutritionist, and naturopathic doctor to help you come up with a nutritional plan that will help you heal quickly and effectively. Disciplines such as physiotherapy, chiropractic care along with the right nutritional diet is necessary to help you get back to full health. Stay healthy, and stay safe.
