Effective treatment for elbow UCL sprains
There are many causes of elbow UCL sprains
Repetitive stress injuries, especially from sports activities such as baseball, wrestling, and tennis, can weaken the UCL leading to a sprained elbow. Acute injuries that cause elbow UCL sprains most often involve a blow or fall where the arm is forcefully straightened beyond its capacity, resulting in strain and inflammation of the ligament. Fortunately, chiropractors, physiotherapists, and massage therapists may be able to help reduce symptoms and speed up recovery time with treatments such as manual manipulation of sensitive areas around the injured area as well as bracing and stretching exercises tailored to meet the needs of each patient. Taking proper preventative measures will help minimize your risk of experiencing this type of injury.

An elbow UCL sprain is an injury to the main stabilizing ligament of the elbow joint, otherwise known as the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). The injury typically occurs due to repeated stress from activities such as throwing or other strenuous motion. UCL sprains range in severity and can sometimes occur in combination with other types of arm injuries including fractures, dislocations and sprains. Severe cases may require the consultation of a doctor or specialist for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. A full recovery is possible with proper care, but it requires rest and adherence to any recommended therapeutic exercises in order to achieve optimal results.
Symptoms of a UCL sprain include localized pain, tenderness, swelling, and decreased range of motion in the affected area. As the injury progresses, there may be an audible clicking or popping sound when the elbow is moved, as well as a decrease in overall stability of the shoulder and upper arm. A diagnosis can be determined through physical examination and imaging tests (such as an MRI), which can also determine the severity of the injury and whether surgical repair is necessary. It’s important to seek medical attention promptly if these symptoms arise, as delaying treatment can result in worsened damage to the ligament.
Treating an elbow UCL sprain requires a comprehensive plan from chiropractors and physiotherapists to help the patient heal. Chiropractors can help ease tightness of the elbow’s muscles, tendons and joints through hands-on treatments and adjustments. They may also recommend exercises for stretching and strengthening. Physiotherapy often includes mobilization or manipulation of the elbow as well as exercise rehabilitation plans. Massage therapy is another treatment option that can be beneficial in treating an UCL sprain. An experienced massage therapist may target soft tissue restrictions that cause pain, weakness, tightness or decreased range of motion in the affected joint. With chiropractic care, physiotherapy and massage therapy employed together, healing from an UCL sprain can become a reality.

I have been receiving treatment from Dr. Webster for a few months and I've been feeling much better. I had sever knee, shoulder and back pain. I couldn't squat or do push ups without my joints screaming at me. But now I'm not able to only do all those but also feel stronger. The most important piece is that she listened and took my history of many injuries into consideration. And as a dancer, I couldn't have asked for a better chiropractor who not only helped me feel better but also understood my needs.
I also brought my grandmother to Dr. Torreiter for her back pain for acupuncture. He was extremely kind, understanding, compassionate and everything that I could ask for. He made her feel comfortable and explained every step during each treatment. He made sure that she was well taken care of and also made other important referrals that lead to her recovery.
So far I have referred my whole family to these two wonderful individuals and everyone's experience has been equally great. Thanks to them we all are doing much better!
