How does CARESPACE facial acupuncture work?
Facial acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) principles and involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the face, neck and sometimes the body. Our practitioners have additional certification in Facial Acupuncture methods. These methods can also be used for other disorders involving the face, head and neck (TMJ, neurological, concussion/migraine, skin lesion).
Key Aspects of Facial Acupuncture
Improvement of Skin Appearance: Facial acupuncture is often used to address signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. It is believed to stimulate collagen production, improve blood circulation, and enhance the overall tone and elasticity of the skin.
Holistic Approach: Unlike some other cosmetic treatments, facial acupuncture takes a holistic approach, aiming to improve not just the skin but also overall health. Practitioners may also treat other areas of the body to balance the flow of energy (Qi) and address underlying health issues that may be affecting the skin by using diet and supplement recommendations.
Natural and Non-Invasive: One of the main appeals of facial acupuncture is that it is a natural and non-invasive treatment. It does not involve the use of chemicals or surgical procedures, making it a popular choice for those looking for a more natural way to improve their skin’s appearance. Minor irritation may occur, however there are no adverse effects long term.
Additional Benefits: Beyond cosmetic improvements, facial acupuncture can also help reduce stress, improve sleep, and promote relaxation. It is sometimes used to treat skin conditions (acne, scars, rosacea), TMJ disorder, Bell’s palsy/neurological issues, and other Brain Disorders (migraines, concussions, TBI’s).
Series of Treatments: Typically, a series of treatments is required for the optimal results. The effects are usually cumulative, with improvements becoming more noticeable over time. A minimum of 6 facial acupuncture sessions are required for skin rejuvination purposes (for collagen production and skin changes), with a recommendation of 8-12 for cosmetic concrns(fine lines/wrinkles). For other conditions listed above, 6-8 is a suggested amount of treatments needed.
Is Facial Acupuncture Safe?
Facial acupuncture is safe when performed by a trained and licensed facial acupuncture practitioner. However, it may not be suitable for everyone, and it’s important to consult with a professional to determine if it is appropriate for your specific needs. There are minor possible side effects such as temporary bruising, and pain in the affected areas. Your practitioner can use numbing applications and cooling gel following the treatments. The practitioners are trained in the nerve and circulatory anatomy in the area, and will take precautions in avoiding adverse affects. An initial new client acupuncture session is the first step in creating a plan between you and your facial acupuncture practitioner to establish goals, followed by booking the appointment series (6 minimum).
What additional services are available with Facial Acupuncture?
Facial cupping, guasha and infrared treatments are available as add-ons with the acupuncture for an additional fee but can also help to accelerate the healing of the above conditions.
